Connections belong to a workspace

In this article

Different workspaces often mean different clients or different companies, and their accounting systems should not be visible to each other.

  • How to connect in the right workspace
  • Why an empty page looks like a permission problem and is not
  • The asymmetry: listed per workspace, but it can write anywhere
  • What to do when two workspaces need the same company

01 · Why

Why is it scoped this way?

Different workspaces often mean different clients or different companies, and their accounting systems should not be visible to each other.

02 · How

Connect in the right place

  1. Check which workspace you are in, using the switcher at the top of the screen.
  2. Switch to the workspace that should own the connection.
  3. Then go to Settings → Integrations and connect.

03 · Expected result

The connection shows on the Integrations page in that workspace, and only there. In any other workspace, the same page shows only the list of available providers.

04 · Notes

A connection can still sync into another workspace

When you set up a sync configuration, the destination picker lists every workspace in the organization, not just the one that owns the connection. So the connection is listed per workspace, but what it writes to is not restricted to that workspace. Choose the destination carefully — see Set up a sync configuration.

The page is titled "organization" in the address bar

Even though the contents are per workspace. Reach it from the sidebar rather than by typing the address.

05 · FAQ

Common questions

Can I move a connection to another workspace?

No. Connect again in the workspace you want.

Two workspaces need the same QuickBooks company. Now what?

Connect it in both. They are independent, with their own mappings and their own history.
