02 · Why

Why does it send me to another website?

Merchaint never asks for your accounting password. Instead you sign in at Xero or QuickBooks directly and they hand Merchaint a key that you can take away at any time. That is why the process sends you off to another website and back.

03 · How

Connect a company

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. Find Xero or QuickBooks Online and press Connect.
  3. Give the connection a name — something like QuickBooks Online — Head Office. If you will only ever have one, the default is fine.
  4. Press Save & Authorize.
  5. Sign in to your accounting system and choose the company you want to connect.
  6. Allow access. You come back to Merchaint automatically.

04 · Expected result

The connection appears under Connections at the top of the page, showing the name you gave it, a Connected badge, the company name and its ID straight from the accounting system, and buttons for Sync Mappings, Sync Status and Reconnect.

The provider card further down now says Connected, and its button changes from Connect to Add Connection.

05 · Troubleshooting

Nothing appears after I come back

Check the workspace you are in. Connections belong to a workspace — see Connections belong to a workspace.

The page shows only "Available Providers"

That workspace has no connections. It is not an error; it just looks like one, because there is no message saying so.

The connection appears but says Error

The sign-in did not finish. See When a connection goes Degraded or Error.

Odoo, MYOB and SAP are greyed out

They are not available yet. Their buttons say Coming Soon and cannot be pressed, even though some screens elsewhere in Merchaint mention Odoo as an example.

06 · FAQ

Common questions

Do I need separate connections for pulling and pushing?

No. One connection does both.

Can I connect more than one company?

Yes. Press Add Connection on the provider card and go through it again. Name them properly — the name is how you will tell them apart everywhere else.

Is the name required?

No, you can leave it blank, but do not. It is the only thing that distinguishes two connections to the same provider.

Does Merchaint see my accounting password?

No. The dialog says so directly: you sign in at your accounting system, not at Merchaint.

What are the little words on each provider card — invoice, bill, contact?

The kinds of record that provider can exchange. Xero lists 17, QuickBooks 11.
